How To Avoid Spinal Problems
November 11, 2021adminBack Pain SolutionsMinimally Invasive Neurosurgery ArticlesMinimally Invasive Spine Surgery

You should seek spinal problems treatment in Dallas Texas, when you get a severe spinal injury. Notably, although most spinal issues go away on their own or with slight medical interventions, severe injuries require surgery.

What causes spinal problems? Mainly, there are many causes of spinal problems. Notably, most spinal problems are avoidable. You only need to know how to avoid the issues.

In this article, we’ll focus on ways to avoid spinal problems. Read on!

Causes of Spinal Problems

Different things can lead to lower back pain, including age-related wear and tear, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, and injury from sports.

The causes of spinal issues can vary depending on the individuals’ health conditions and lifestyle. The following are some of the common causes of spinal problems:

Lifting weight. Lifting something improperly or lifting too much weight can cause back pain.

Poor posture. Poor posture over time, such as sitting at a desk while leaning, can cause back problems.

Sports. Sports injuries cause fractures and sprains and are more familiar to people who engage in sports.

Health conditions.  Health conditions such as arthritis, infection, tumors, or scoliosis can cause back pain.

Sitting for long hours. Sitting for many hours without moving around much will undoubtedly lead to experiencing some form of disc degeneration.

Age. The back pain may vary depending on age, with the elderly being prone to back pain issues.

Ways to Avoid Spinal Pain

With so many possible causes, spinal problems are hard to pinpoint the exact cause and treat them appropriately. Importantly, spine health is a serious concern that should be closely looked at to prevent further complications.

The best course of action is prevention through exercise and good posture habits early on in life.

The following are ways or steps you should take to prevent spinal problems in doing a daily routine.

1.   Proper posture

Proper Posture can prevent spinal injuries during everyday activities like lifting heavy objects or even sitting for extended periods. Always ensure a good posture when seated.

2.   Maintaining Good Ergonomics

Good ergonomics is essential since it takes into account how your workstation is set up; this includes office furniture arrangement, computer monitor placement, and having adequate lighting at all times while you’re working on something. You should not strain your back while working at your workstation.

3.   Exercise

Exercising regularly allows your body to stay strong and healthy, which helps improve its overall function, such as keeping your spine aligned properly throughout the day.

If you’re not sure where to start with exercise, then ask an expert at your local gym; they will be able to advise you on what kind of exercises are best for your body type and how often.

4.   Eat balanced diet

Eat foods rich in nutrients your body needs, such as vitamins, carbohydrates, proteins, and minerals. The foods you should take include milk, liver, eggs, vegetables, fruit, and supplements, among others. The foods will help in strengthening the bones and alleviating other health issues.

5.   Lose Weight

Lose weight if necessary. Excess weight can cause back pain. Notably, losing weight can be difficult, although managing the weight reduces chronic low-back pain substantially.

People with average weight have lesser cases of back pain compared with those who are obese. Therefore, you can control back pain through weight loss.

6.   Quit smoking or drinking alcohol

Quit smoking or drinking alcohol excessively. Smokers are highly vulnerable to back pain. Smoking prevents the flow of nutrients into the spinal discs.

Quitting smoking and alcohol helps in keeping the bones healthy and prevents arthritis in old age.

7.   Lift heavy loads carefully to avoid back injuries

When lifting weights, do not bend from the waist. Instead, bend your knees or squat. Also, ensure the item you are lifting is close to your body to avoid strain in your back.

8.   Avoid high-heeled shoes

High-heeled shoes shift the center of gravity and cause instability. If you have to wear high-heeled shoes, buy one-inch high heels.

The flat or less than one-inch shoes are comfortable, and you will not strain at your back in balancing your weight as you stand or walk around.

Spinal Pain Treatment Methods

Although back pain problems are preventable, back pain cases are still prevalent. Some causes, such as injuries due to accidents, can cause back pain. If you experience back pain, seek the appropriate treatment from a qualified Dallas spine surgeon.  The surgeon will assess your spine condition and advise you on the proper treatment procedure.

Therefore, if you experience back pain that is not going away even after taking over-the-counter drugs, don’t hesitate to seek help. You can contact Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery of Texas for all types of spinal problems treatment in Dallas Texas.
